Opinion on the Muslim Brotherhood From an American perspective Although the Muslim Brotherhood started in 1928, most Americans have never heard of the group. It was not until the attacks in New York on September 11th, 2001, did everyday Americans start to pay attention to terrorist groups abroad. Americans then suddenly became hypervigilant on the various Islamic fundamentalist terror groups. Whether it was Al-Qaida, Hezbollah, the Taliban, HAMAS or some other perceived groups, American were laser focused on them. The Muslim Brotherhood was not mentioned in the mainstream American media at that time. The U.S. military watched the Muslim Brotherhood and people that were in the know, fully understood that the Muslim Brotherhood had violent tenancies. It was the understanding of those in the position to provide national security analysis that the Muslim Brotherhood was a terrorist group although it had not been declared to be by the U.S. government.
